USS Intrepid Pier 86 Manhattan NY Oct 1989

Launched in 1943, USS Intrepid took part in six major Pacific War campaigns including Leyte Gulf, history’s greatest naval battle, surviving five Japanese kamikaze suicide planes. Later saw service in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was twice a recovery ship for NASA astronauts. Decommissioned and mothballed in a Philadelphia shipyard and slated for demolition until rescued by New York philanthropist Zachary Fisher. Refurbished between 2006 and 2008. Many new planes incl Concorde and Space Shuttle.
